In 1931, Edmon Leonovich founded the park, which is named after Edmon Leonovich Sochut Arboretum, which is better known as Stepanavan Arboretum. The huge park has an area of 35 hectares.
The Arboretum consists of a natural forest with an area of 17.5 hectares, ornamental plants with an area of 15 hectares, rows of small-leaved lychees and other wild plants. Many plants were brought from the Yerevan Botanical Garden, but there are also plants from Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, the Far East and other countries.
